KARACHI - Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) on Wednesday strongly condemned the arrests of protesting Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM) workers and inhuman torture of police on them.

Addressing a press conference at Insaf House Karachi, PTI leader Haleem Adil Sheikh said, “We strongly condemn the ill-treatment meted out to the protestors by the PSM management and police.”

He called for arresting the PSM administrators, blaming they were responsible for inflicting inhuman torture on the Mills employees.

Sheikh added that it was a proven fact that prime minister was a liar, and corruption was at its peak in Pakistan.

“We are going to launch a mass contact movement from the grassroots level soon,” the PTI leader said, and added, “Children of PSM employees are starving due to non-payment of salaries.”

Sheikh further said that after shelling and baton-charge, police arrested PTI leader Dr Masroor Siyal and other workers and leaders.

PTI leader said after the meeting of PTI Chairman Imran Khan with PSM workers, Ishaq Dar had panicked and announced to release their salaries pending for three months. “But the workers were given the salaries only for 15 days,” he added.

He accused the PSM administration of booking the employees in fake cases when the latter approached it to demand payment of their salaries.

Sheikh said that these dirty tactics by the administration were aimed at frightening the workers and dampening their protest movement.

He said that the PSM workers had also protested on the previous day so that the administration could listen to their grievances. “But instead, the administrators sent police to arrest them and PTI leaders and sent them to the jail after inflicting severe torture on them,” he said, and vowed, “We will avenge these excesses.” He said that PTI would sweep the elections; be they are held today or in 2018.

He said PTI existed as an alternative political choice in Karachi, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas and, in fact, in the entire Sindh.

Sheikh said the people of Sindh believed that only PTI would end injustices and break the status quo.

He said that PTI was contemplating improving its structure in Sindh, adding the Karachiites also needed PTI, as they were fed up with injustices and cruelties.

“We promise that after coming to power, we would not forgive any person who has remained connected to any injustice or a crime,” he pledged.
