SHOs must remain in field: DIG

LAHORE - Lahore DIG (Operations) Dr Haider Ashraf yesterday suspended from service the station house officer of Township police station over bad performance. 

The officer also censured the SHOs of Johar Town and Quaid-e-Azam Industrial Estate over poor crime control. The DIG warned the policemen that criminals could not be eliminated from the society unless the SHOs would remain present in the field.

The DIG also urged the field officers to come forward and play their due role in eradicating street crimes since a major crackdown was launched against the criminal elements.

According to a police spokesman, the DIG issued these directions while presiding over the monthly anti-crime meeting of the Sadar police division. SP Rizwan Omar Gondal, Atif Nazeer and all the circle officers and station house officers were also present in the meeting.

On this occasion, the DIG asked the field police officers to step crackdown on gamblers, drug dealers, and land grabbers. He further said that the policemen who failed to control crimes in their jurisdiction would be expelled from the city police department.

The DIG also reviewed the crime and law and order situation in the Sadar police division. During the meeting, the DIG suspended from service SHO Township, Ahmed Usman Majeed, over bad performance. The officers also admonished DSP Township Circle, and SHOs of Johar Town and Quaid-e-Azam Industrial Estate police stations.

After reviewing the incidents of street crime, the DIG directed the police to intensify armed patrolling in the crime prone areas. In addition to Dolphin Squads and Police Response Units, the Mobile Squads should also patrol in the streets to bring down the crime rate in the metropolis, the DIG added.
