LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has said the Model Town incident was tragic and he had announced constituting a commission the same day.

According to a handout issued here on Thursday, the CM told the media in London that he held a press conference on June 17, 2014 and requested the chief justice of Lahore High Court to set up a court commission for the inquiry of the incident.

“Our sympathies are with the family of the martyrs. However, there should no politics on dead bodies,” he said. Replying to a question, he said that Orange Line remained on stay order for 22 months and some elements created hurdles in this important project for their personal interests.

Condolence

Punjab CM Shehbaz Sharif condoled the death of daughter-in-law of Nawab Iftikhar Hussain Khan Mamdot, former governor of Sindh and ex-chief minister of Punjab. He also condoled the death of Tahir Chughtai, brother of Prof Akhtar Sohail Chughtai, CEO of Chughtai Labs.

 In his separate messages of condolence, the CM prayed to Almighty Allah to rest the departed souls in peace and grant courage and solace to the bereaved families to bear the loss with equanimity.
