Pakistan on Saturday briefed foreign envoys on the steps taken by it to cooperate with India in bringing the perpetrators of the Mumbai attacks to justice and to eliminate terrorism and militancy. The heads of diplomatic missions in Islamabad were also briefed by Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir on Pakistan's perspective on "peace, security and stability, with particular emphasis on the situation in South Asia". The diplomatic corps were told about "the steps taken by Pakistan relating to the Mumbai terrorist attacks with a view to extending cooperation to India in bringing the perpetrators to justice as well as in pursuit of the goal of eliminating terrorism and militancy", said a statement from the Foreign Office spokesman. Terrorism continued to affect the whole region and Pakistan has adopted a "proactive, well-coordinated and coherent regional approach" to deal with the menace, Bashir told the envoys. Bashir also touched on regional cooperation under the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation and Pakistan's efforts to promote constructive engagement with India and Afghanistan. "Pakistan has consistently sought to promote peace and prosperity in this region and worked for the creation of conditions conducive for achieving this objective," the statement said.
