ISLAMABAD (Agencies) Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani is inaugurating the four-day anti-polio campaign today (Monday). The Islamabad Capital Territorys (ICT) District Health Department has made comprehensive arrangements to ensure polio drops to children below five. According to District Health Officer (DHO) Dr Amirzada Khan, 237 mobile teams have been constituted for administering anti-polio drops to 95,813 children in the rural areas of Islamabad. He told that rural areas had been divided into 11 zones, while 11 zonal supervisors and 45 areas in charges had been deputed there to monitor mobile teams on a daily basis. He said the zonal supervisors and area in charges would submit reports of their respective areas to the capitals deputy commissioner. The DHO said besides rural health facilities, 10 transit and 37 fixed places had also been selected in Islamabads rural areas for polio vaccination. He said performance of mobile teams would be strictly monitored on a daily basis and he would visits far-flung areas. Meanwhile, as many as 7,05,000 children under five years of age will be administered polio drops in a three-day anti-polio campaign starting today (Monday). Monitoring of this campaign will be carried out on February 18 and 19 and strict action will be taken against the staff found involved in the negligence. According to District Health Officer, Dr. Khalid Randhawa, here on Sunday the representative of Teaching Hospitals, Education and Welfare Departments besides NGOs will be involved in the campaign. He said that it is our national obligation to make this campaign a success so that the future generation could be saved from becoming disable. He said the staff being deployed for the campaign should perform their duties otherwise, the City government would suspend them. Dr Khalid Randhawa briefed the meeting and informed that 1,339 teams have been constituted which will administer the polio drops and give vitamin A capsules to children at their doorsteps. He said 256 vaccination centres will also be set up in Health Unit, Tehsil Headquarter Hospitals and Teaching Hospitals while 86 mobile teams will administer drops and give tables in public parks, railways stations, wagon stands and airports. He said the officials of education department and health department have been assigned this duty. He said Log Area Commander would be requested to involve army jawans in the campaign in Cantt area.
