LAHORE – Dacoits shot injured two brothers here at The Mall on Tuesday morning and snatched away prize-bonds worth Rs 7 million in broad daylight, police sources said.

Resident of Garhi Shahu, Muhammad Naseem riding on a motorcycle (CD-70) along with his brother Muhammad Munir was coming back from the State Bank of Pakistan after withdrawing prize bonds worth Rs 7 million when two gunmen opened fire on them from the rear.

Eyewitnesses told the police that the bandits were also riding on a motorcycle (Honda-125) and they opened fire on the motorcyclists as they reached opposite to SBP building at The Mall on early Tuesday. As a result, Muhammad Naseem sustained multiple bullet wounds and fell on the road while his brother Muhammad Munir also sustained a bullet in the leg. The robbers after snatching the bag, containing prize-bonds, from the wounded men and fled away. The robbers also resorted to aerial firing at The Mall in order to manage their escape, creating worst traffic mess at the leading artery during rush hours. One of the injured told the police despite they did not offering resistance, the robbers opened fire on them to snatch prize-bonds. Both the injured men, said to be shopkeepers, were rushed to a local hospital, where the condition of Muhammad Naseem was reported to be critical till filing of this report.

Eyewitnesses said several policemen were on guard alongside The Mall when armed robbery took place but the cops did not put up resistance. The Old Anarkali police have registered the case and are investigating with no arrest made so far.
