KARACHI - Two activists of banned outfit Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistan were targeted near Rickshaw Stand, Nazimabad in Shamim Shaheed Police precincts on Tuesday. The incident took place at Nazimabad No 2, where two friends 35-year-old Shabbir and Ateeq, 40, were shot dead by known gunmen when they going on a motorcycle.
Police quoted eyewitnesses as saying that unidentified armed men came on white high roof and open indiscriminate firing. Resultantly both the victims sustained critical wounds and died on the way to hospital.
Police rushed on scene and shifted body and injured to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for medicolegal formalities where during treatment Ateeq also succumbed to injuries. Following the incident, scores of SSP workers reached hospital and chanted slogans against the law enforcement agencies and rivals. SHO Rao Ehsan suspect that it was the sectarian murders as both were affiliated with SSP and were the residents resident of Firdous Colony Gulbahar area.
Meanwhile, funeral of both the victims were offered in Khajji Ground, Nazimabad. Later Shabbir was buried in Paposh Nagar Graveyard and Ateeq was buried in Nazimabad Graveyard situated at near Khajji Ground. No case was registered till filing of the report.
Separately, a butcher was shot dead in target killing in Bheempura within Risala police jurisdictions. Police officials said the victim identified as Saleem Qureshi was sitting at a shop of his friend when two armed culprits, on motorcycle, came and opened fire on them and escaped. He was shot four times and died on the spot. The body was taken to Civil Hospital. Police officials said that the deceased was the resident of New Karachi area and was a butcher by profession.
The cause behind the murder was yet to be ascertained.
