ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman Imran Khan has asked President Asif Ali Zardari to tell the nation what favours did he give for the over Rs5 billion ‘gift’ of Bilawal House from business tycoon Malik Riaz.
Referring to media reports carrying an assertion by the Transparency International Pakistan that 200-kanal Bilawal House had been gifted to Zardari by Riaz, the PTI chief questioned the reasons behind such a costly gift.
He said such transactions reflected how much corruption was going on at the top level in the country, and how much the integrity of the individuals at the helm of affairs had been compromised.
"This reflects the lust and hunger of the elites for acquiring more and more wealth and building palaces through their corrupt practices. Unfortunately, our rulers have learned nothing from history, as the people are suffering and rulers are living a lavishly luxurious lives," remarked the PTI chief.
Khan deplored the fact that it was unfortunate that neither the National Accountability Bureau chairman nor any other law-enforcement agency had taken notice of such a precious ‘gift’.
"The meaningful silence by the NAB chairman also reflects that the questions raised about the alleged harassment of those NAB officials who were investigating the RPPs case were genuine. This has also revealed that the hue and cry of the family of late Kamran Faisal dubbing his death as a murder held ground while the harassment of Waqas Ahmed Khan, another NAB investigator in the RPPs case, was also genuine," he added.
The PTI chairman said that inaction of the NAB chairman had also vindicated some reports that Fasih Bukhari was a close friend of Malik Riaz Hussain and he had been appointed as NAB chairman on special request of Riaz.
 He said the nation couldn't prosper when the public money was looted and law enforces also became hand in glove with those indulging in corruption.
