ASI demoted on faulty probe into car lifting case

RAWALPINDI -  Acting Regional Police Officer (RPO) Akhtar Umer Hayyat Lalayka Friday demoted a police officer from the rank of assistant sub-inspector (ASI) to constable over conducting faulty investigation in a car lifting case and showing criminal negligence in mitigating the complainant’s woes, whose car was stolen.
ASI Mukhtar Ahmed was reverted to the rank of constable by after finalisation of departmental inquiry in which he was found guilty. The Nation published a detailed story on January 9, 2014 under the headline “Rawalpindi cops cashing in on CPO’s friendly behaviour” after ASI Mukhtar Ahmed while talking to this scribe had denied to obey the orders of RPO, who had transferred him from Police Station Sadiqabad to Murree for not filing car theft case and not recovering car from the custody of Mardan police.  According to details, Mehran car (RIA-9602) owned by Sibt-ul-Hassan Malik was stolen on January 5 from 6th Road, within the limits of PS Sadiqabad.
The victim appeared before ASI for filing an application but the police officer refused to register case.
On this the complaint approached police high-ups and on their intervention the case was penned in.
Meanwhile, PS Toro Mardan SHO, on receiving call from Rescue 15, intercepted one Ameer Hamza son of Zahid, resident of Gujar Khan, driving a stolen car with fake number plate (LYZ-8341) towards Peshawar. Mardan police contacted PS Sadiqabad who conveyed message to Sibt that his car was recovered. But, ASI suggested the victim to go to Mardan and bribe police to get back his car.
The victim went to CPO Office Complaint Cell to tell his agony. The CPO summoned ASI, censured him, transferred him to PS Murree besides serving show cause notice. ASI Mukhtar Ahmed was demoted from ASI to constable after completion of departmental inquiry in which he was found guilty.
