ISLAMABAD - RDC International (Pvt) Limited has asserted that it was the first company to have discovered the treasure trove in Chiniot.

In a press release issued here, CEO/MD of RDC Pvt Ltd, and an eminent Geologist Javed Ahmed said that RDC was the first company which carried out the exploration and technical evaluation and prepared a pre-feasibility report and discovered these deposits some 15 years ago. The study was initiated by the MD of Punjab Mineral Development Corporation. The deposit is geologically different from Reko Diq Copper-gold deposit, which is Porphyry deposit of Cenozoic Age and related to Plate Tectonic while Chiniot deposit is of the Pre Cambrian Age i-e Shield Rocks which are famous for presence of metallic minerals in different parts of the world.

According to RDC, the area also contains copper, gold, cobalt, nickel, vanadium, wolfram and tungsten deposits which are precious metallic minerals rarely found in the world. In Chiniot area about 110 million tons of ore with iron contents of more than 85% was proved by RDC. The analysis of iron ore deposits in Rajoa area near Chiniot was also made by RDC with estimated reserves of more than 500 million tons, which were proved after drilling. Moreover, RDC in its report also indicated that such type of iron ore deposits are present in Sargodha, Faisalabad, Sheikhupura, Gujranwala and Lahore districts and could be proved after detailed exploration.

RDC gave a detailed program for future exploration and evaluation of iron ore, gold and other metallic minerals in Punjab province in their pre-feasibility report in 2000, but it was dumped.

The study of Chiniot iron ore deposit was undertaken in 1998 during PML-N government under Mian Nawaz Sharif as Prime Minister of Pakistan. Had any successive government following the recommendations made by RDC, the country would have upgrade the low grade ore with the help of PCSIR Laboratories, Lahore, it added.

It claimed that a complete lay out plan for the steel plant was also prepared by RDC with an estimated cost of production of ore. The pre-feasibility report was prepared in four volumes according to the international standards.

CEO of the company, minerals and energy expert, Mr Javed Ahmad said that it was astonishing that neither Punjab government nor the Chinese Company have acknowledged the discovery originally made by the RDC, the consultants of the project under his supervision.
