Thin activities seen on Valentine's Day in Peshawar

PESHAWAR - In the wake of ban on Valentine Day by the district administration of Peshawar, activities remained dim on the eve of 14th February in Peshawar however several shops were seen openly selling stuff in connection with Valentine Day.
There was no such forceful ban as no arrest has been made in connection of violation. The district council Peshawar had already passed a resolution directing the deputy commissioner to ban valentine day activities in Peshawar as it is against the basic teaching of Islam. University police informed The Nation that unlike past this time Valentine Day was observed with calm and peace as mostly religious and progressive student unions resort to clash on this day in Peshawar University.
In pasts Pakhtuns Students Federation and Islami Jamiat-e-Tulba also exchanged firing in hostels and departments of the varsity. Campus police in-charge said that due to Sunday off there was no activity in the university while the notification of the district administration has also barred the students to participate in any activity.
In Saddar Bazar children were seen with traditional stuff of Valentine Day but no such big activity or an organized function was seen due to ban on these activities.
Meanwhile participants at Shinwari Modal College while observing modesty day said that Islam has no room for observing Valentine Day and success of the Muslims lay by truly following the holly Quran and the Sunnah of the Prophet (PBUH). The gathering was organized under the auspices of Al-Khedmat Foundation FATA chapter and beside students, parents and members of civil society participated in it.
Addressing on the occasion Al-Khedmat FATA Orphan Care coordinator and the chief guest Gul Nawaz said like other parts in west, Valentine day was also celebrated on 14th February in the country that was against the philosophy of Islam.
He called on Muslims to hold the rope of the teachings of Islam tightly which was the main cause of their success in the World and Hereafter.
He stressed upon the rulers to adopt solid steps to foil the assault of western culture. 
President Al-Khedmat Foundation, Landi Kotal Sharifullah, Murad Hussain and Abdurrauf Shinwari also spoke on the occasion.
At the end the chief guest distributed Rs 168000 among the 35 orphans of Landi Kotal.
