Rawalpindi-A court on Wednesday issued non-bailable arrest warrants of the owner of a private housing society due to his prolonged absence from the proceedings.

The court had been in session for the proceedings of a land-grabbing case against Chaudhry Haris Iftikhar, owner of Sanober City, accused of having grabbed two commercial plots of a citizen and hurling threats at him along with 5 unidentified armed men as the citizen tried to start construction on his plots.

Haris earlier managed to get pre-arrest bail confirmed from the court on basis of a controversial letter issued by Deputy Director Metropolitan and Traffic Engineering Sami Ullah Khan Niazi. A case had been registered against Chaudhry Haris with the Police Station Saddar Bairooni on complaint of Waqas Ahmed. The police had declared Chaudhry Haris as guilty in their investigation report and had submitted complete challan to the court.   Civil Judge/Area Magistrate Qasim Rasool took up Sanober City land grabbing case during which the prosecution pleaded that the main accused was not appearing before the court despite issuance of several summons. Prosecutor Ali Malik Advocate also told the court that Chaudhry Haris was found guilty in the police investigation.

He requested the court to issue non-bailable arrest warrants of the accused for not obeying the court orders, after which the judge issued the warrant against Chaudhry Haris and ordered the police to present the accused handcuffed on the next date of hearing.

Meanwhile, Waqas Ahmed, the victim, told media that the accused had been involved in committing frauds with the helpless and poor land owners in the society. He said that the police had earlier played a bluff game with him by writing a letter to Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) for verification of land ownership documents that according to the law was exclusive job of the Land Revenue Department.

He alleged that the RDA Deputy Director Sami Ullah Khan Niazi had violated the RDA laws and issued a controversial letter in favour of the accused. He said that the accused presented the letter before the court and obtained bail. He said that he had lodged a complaint against the official with Director RDA Jamshed Aftab. He also vowed to approach the Anti-Corruption Department against Sami Ullah Khan Niazi.
