The all-pevasive greed

This is regarding the news reports that Latif Khosa is being given important key assignments by the PM. This country has suffered a lot at the hands of civil and military bureaucrats who made their assignments a channel for their vested personal interests. They not only gobbled up state assets but also gave undue favors to a few at the expense of majority. Unfortunately, the change that was expected after the last elections has not come. The present administrations performance has been even more dismal having marred by the greed of a few black sheep who have made politics a trade for personal gains. The biggest threat to the democratic system is from within the ruling political parties. Men like Latif Khosa, Babar Awan, Sohail Zia Butt, Fazalur Rehman, Babar Ghauri are a blot on politics. These opportunists would sink the parties they represent because of their misdeeds. This country achieved independence through a struggle launched by politicians of repute, integrity and principles, politicians like Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. In order to follow his legacy of politics, our political parties need to get rid of the rotten eggs within their folds that are besmirching the nobility of politics with their greed and corruption. The PPP in particular must be careful, for there is a perception that once in power, it gives important assignments to usually the most corrupt and controversial individuals. A case in point is the appointments made in Steel Mills, PIAC, TCP, National Bank etc. PPP is weakening its government through poor governance. -RASHID ORAKZAI, Quetta, January 13.
