SAMBRIAL - Five people including three women were killed while two others critically injured when their car allegedly carrying a huge cache of charas ran into a passenger van here.

The car with five people on board was on its way to Sialkot when it rammed into the Sialkot-bound van coming from Gujranwala at Haji Pura Chowk.

The car ran off the road and turned-turtle killing all the five passengers including three women, whereas two of the van passengers received serious injuries. Police said the accident was a result of human error. The deceased were identified as Bushra, 36, Nasreen,56, and an unidentified woman.

The car (JJ 300) was carrying a huge cache of charas on the Sialkot Road. The Rescue personnel and the police recovered the packets of charas hidden in the secret cavities of the car which was heading towards Sialkot. The police also found names and phone numbers of the consignees.

The dead and injured have been shifted to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital while two seriously injured were sent District Headquarters Hospital. Police have taken the car into custody and started investigation.

WEATHER AFFECTS CROPS: Cold and misty weather is badly affecting seasonal crops including potato and fodder crops at massive level in Sialkot region and has badly perturbed the growers and farmers.

Talking to the newsmen, the farmers said that the potato and fodder crops have been badly affected by the weather due to which they might suffer severe financial crisis. They urged the provincial government to send teams concerned to ascertain the loss of these crops, besides, announcing some agriculture-related subsidies for the farmers.
