Jewellers’ strike continues for 3rd day

HAFIZABAD - Jewellers and goldsmith community observed shutter down strike for the 3th consecutive day to protest against the biggest-ever dacoity in a jewller’s shop in Main Bazaar here on Saturday.
The Jewellers also staged a sit-in at Chowk Fawara for about four hours. They demanded early arrest of the accused and recovery of the stolen gold and jewellery. They also warned that if the local police failed to recover stolen gold in the next two days, they would resort to shutter down strike and sit-in for an indefinite time. The Main Bazaar presented a deserted look due to closures of all shops. Meanwhile, the City Police have rounded up ten proclaimed offenders and they are being interrogated.
PTCL staff flays Gepco ‘highhandedness’: The PTCL employees staged a protest demonstration against the Gepco SDO Faheem Soomraoo for unlawfully disconnecting electricity of Telephone Exchange and PTCL Colony here on Saturday.
According to PTCL Assistant Engineer Aqeel, due to non payment of outstanding arrears of Rs900,000 against the Gepco office, the PTCL disconnected telephones of the Gepco officers. But on the request of the Gepco officials, the Telephones Department restored the connections of phone after few hours. However, in retaliation the SDO Sub Division No2 Faheem disconnected power supply to the Telephone Exchange and the PTCL Colony without any reason. After great struggle the power supply was restored after eighteen hours.
