ISLAMABAD – Governor Punjab Sardar Latif Ahmed Khan Khosa on Saturday underlined the need for promoting good governance in the Punjab province.
He said that the people living in remote and far-flung areas of the province are seeking better facilities, equal distribution of resources, funds, development projects, and basic amenities of life besides opportunities.
Talking to the state-run television channel, he said, “It is the responsibility of the Chief Minister to bring improvement in all the affairs of the province.”
He said that focus should be given to provide basic facilities to the people of all areas of the Punjab.
Sardar Khosa regretted that a huge amount is being spent on different programmes like ‘Danish Schools’, ‘Ashiana Housing Scheme’, and ‘Yellow Scheme’, while the big population of the province is seeking basic amenities of life besides development projects near their homes.
Replying to a question regarding establishment of new provinces, he said that Seraiki province should be made for the betterment of the people of the area. The Governor said that disparity should be removed in all the areas and departments of the province.
Replying to another question regarding law and order situation, he said there is a serious need to improve the law and order situation in Punjab. He said that recovery of former Governor Salman Taseer’s son, has not yet been made by the law enforcing agencies.
He said that the representatives of the provinces should work on managing and streamlining the affairs and system of their areas so that the people could avail better facilities and opportunities at their doorsteps.
To a question, he said that all the power generation projects initiated by the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) in the past, had not been given due importance by its successors.
He said that the PPP would sweep the elections in the Punjab, particularly in its southern areas, due to its performance. Replying to another question, he said that Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto always stood against the dictators and sacrificed their lives for the cause of democracy.
He said the credit went to the PPP government and leaders who empowered the provinces by awarding NFC award and added “It is the responsibility of the responsible persons in the provinces to strongly work on streamlining the system and affairs of their areas.”
