Qaeda man held with 50-kg explosives

KARACHI - The Crime Investigation Department on Saturday claimed to have arrested three alleged operatives of Al-Qaeda and Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan  including a suicide bomber in separate raids and recovered huge cache of weapons from their possessions.
An Anti Extremist Cell team of the department arrested Muhammad Dawood alias Waleed alias Ishaq from Mawatch Goth and recovered 50kgs of explosive material, four SMGs, 1 LMG, 1 rocket launcher, 2 mortar launchers, 10 grenades, 2 Kalashnikovs, 2 TT pistols, 20fts detonator wires, 2 detonators and 1,000 rounds.
According to CID AIG Ghulam Shabbir Sheikh, the accused got training from Waziristan and had ability prepare bombs and was involved in almost all major terrorist activities in Karachi.
The detained person during initial course of investigation revealed that he was the mastermind of Abdullah Shah Ghazi blast in 2010, and Sea View blasts in 2011.
The accused person in his statement revealed that Badshah Khan and Abdullah were suicide bombers in Abdullah Shah Ghazi blast while he had planned to blow up the said shrine again but the bomb went off on the way accidentally at Sea View.
AIG informed that three Chechen nationals including a woman suicide bomber killed among five terrorist in that blast.
The AIG further said that he had planned to flare up terrorist activities during Chehlum of Imam Hussain but the plan had been ended after his arrest.
He said the accused person had made a list for terrorist activities, according to which, CID and other security agencies’ offices, 5-star hotels, shrines, Imambargah would be their targets.
Separately, a CID team on a tip-off conducted raid at National Highway near Abbot Factory in the limits of Shah Latif Area and arrested two alleged member of TTP namely Azeem Ahmad Sheikh alias Anees and Zubair Alam alias Munna and recovered five rockets, two triple-2 rifles and several rounds from them.
SSP Mazhar Mashwani said the accused Sheikh who hails from Hyderabad, Sindh, joined Al-Qaeda on the directives of Tahir and Talat in 2009, adding that Sheikh was an expert in making remote control bomb.
Moreover, he said the mastermind of the group named Talat having affiliation with Al-Qaeda, introduced Zubair and Sheikh and Sheikh brainwashed Zubair for suicide blast.
They had given him a task to target SP Chaudhry Aslam. He said the accused during initial course of investigation confessed to have killed seven persons including an advocate namely Syed Mukhtiar Bukhari on the directives of Tahir a legal consultant of Pasban-e-Jaffria.
