Couple of months back, I saw a motorbike with registration no AFR 2012. Few days later, I noticed a car with the same registration number. I thought this was a coincidence. But when I saw many vehicles on the road with the same registration number I asked my friend, who deals in sale and purchase of new and used vehicles. He told me that AFR stood for ‘Applied for Registration’ and ‘2012’ stood for the model year of the bike or vehicle.
I think Karachi police should check all such vehicles bearing registration numbers of AFR 2012. If the vehicle is new, only ‘Applied for Registration’ should be mentioned. Several vehicles plying on Karachi roads with same number plates, not only creates confusion, but these vehicles can also be used for the purpose of terrorism that are already present in large numbers in our city.
