QUETTA - A high-level meeting of the provincial administration decided on Monday to carry out targeted action against terrorists and their hideouts and restore law and order in the province so that the faith of the masses in rule of law could be restored.

The high-profile meeting was chaired by Chief Secretary Balochistan Babar Yaqoob Fateh Muhammad to review law and order situation.

Inspector General (IG) police Tariq Umar Khatab, Home Secretary Akbar Hussain Durrani, DIG Frontier Corps, CCPO Quetta, Commisioner Quetta, IG prisons, DCO Quetta, DIG operations and other civil and Army officials attended the meeting.

It was decided during the meeting that targeted operations would be conducted against the terrorists to maintain law and order situation in the province. Police and FC were directed to take action culprits rather than resorting to defensive tactics.

They were told that whoever was found guilty of any act of violence or crime should be arrested as no one stood above the law.

Police and FC were directed to cooperate with each other and take strong action in A and B areas of the province without any negligence and also take the support and confidence of the local administration before taking action. It was said that the protection of the people and maintaining law and order is the responsibility of the relevant government institutions. In the light of Supreme Court order, it was decided that action would be taken against the non-customs paid vehicles and also vehicles plying with tinted glasses.

Chief Secretary Balochistan Babar Yaqoob Fateh told the participants of the meeting that due to the worsening law and order situation in the province, Governor’s Rule was imposed and ,added, that it was then the duty and responsibility of all of them to return the situation of the province to normalcy.

He said that Governor Balochistan Nawab Zulfiqar Ali Magsi has given free hand to the institutions and relevant administration to work for the restoration of peace in the province.

He said for the maintenance of rule of law any step can be taken and if needed alongwith police and FC other forces can also be deployed in the province. It was also decided during the meeting to take back the security provided to the former ministers and deploy all the forces for the maintenance of law and order in the province.

It may be mentioned here that for tackling the menace of terrorism in the province, Quetta district police and Levies were insufficient in number to efficiently establish peace but after taking back the security of former Ministers, the capacity of the security forces would be enhanced.

It was also decided that exhibition of weapons would be prohibited in the provincial capital as Article 144 remained in place. However, keeping licenced weapons would be allowed.
