RAWALPINDI  – Commandant AFIC and NIHD Rawalpindi, Major General SM Shahab Naqvi said that as the heart transplant is being carried out in many countries of the world and especially in Saudi Arabia (KSA) in the Muslim world, Pakistan has also entered the race of heart transplant.

“We started the work on this project two years ago and by the grace of Allah Almighty, we are now capable of carrying out heart transplant any time.” He said while addressing closing session of a three-day long first National Transplant Conference of Pakistan held here under the auspices of Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology (AFIC) and National Institute of Heart Diseases (NIHD) Rawalpindi with collaboration of Pakistan National Heart Association (PANAH).

After two-day successful completion of scientific sessions, on last day, he informed the participants that a trained team is ready with required equipment for heart transplant. “We have also registered a number of recipients, whose all required tests have been carried out. So, whenever we receive a donor, first heart transplant of Pakistan will be carried out in AFIC and NIHD Rawalpindi.”

Shahab Naqvi also requested the participants to spread his message to people of Pakistan to cooperate in this noble cause and also requested to get themselves registered as donor.

Many renowned religious scholars, experts in legal matters and specialist doctors, surgeons also addressed the session and replied the questions of the participants.
