ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Cricket Board after creating so much hype finally announced the names of players who were awarded cash prizes in the recently-held inaugural function in Lahore.

The players and everyone was expecting a reasonable amount would be paid to acknowledge players performances and services rendered by them for Pakistan throughout the year in all three formats of the game. But to the utter disappointment of not only the players but the cricket-crazy fans of the country that PCB gave away just Rs 200,000 to award winners in each category and a meagre additional cash incentive to world’s premier off spinner Saeed Ajmal who was single-handedly played vital role in most of the Pakistan team’s victories.

PCB should have at least given Rs 1 million to each category winner and a minimum of Rs 500,000 to each member of Pakistan team that defeated India in their own backyard and also the same should have been awarded to all the supporting staff, which remained with the team during the entire year.

Pakistan Cricket Board directors and other high profile staff earn in millions in the name of monthly salaries and other incentives, but the players who are the only source of providing billions of rupees to board were left high and dry.

Pakistan Cricket Board advisors should have thought for a second while announcing such disrespectful cash awards, the players are the ones who perform on and off the field, instead of reaping majority of benefits, board should have pass on them to the players as well.

Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Ch Zaka Ashraf in his less than two years period in office, has spent millions of rupees on foreign tours, which none of his predecessors had managed despite serving as chairman for longer period of time. Chairman office doesn't take any monthly salary, but in reality, that is the office which enjoys all the perks and privileges and huge benefits in the name of tours and other official assignments.

It is pertinent to mention here that according to some inside sources confided to this scribe on condition of anonymity revealed that Pakistan Cricket Board is paying a whopping Rs 3.5 million every month to a particular party in the name of donation, this practice was started in the previous tenure of Ijaz Butt and still is continuing unabated in the current chairman tenure too.

Meanwhile talking to this scribe different sporting circles have expressed their bitter disappointment on the so-called prize money being announced by the PCB for the best players of the year categories and demanded of the PCB chairman to immediately enhance the prize money and allocate a sufficient amount to all the players and individuals who had raised the country flag high especially against the arch rivals India and beat them at their own backyard.

PCB in the past had given handsome incentives to players despite not performing well and the one such example of those lavish days was when Pakistan team returned after losing the World Cup semi-final against India, but not only PCB but also former prime minister and chief ministers of provinces had shower countless cash incentives to all the players.

But after triumphant return from India and consistent performances, players were not given the justified cash incentives, players are the one and only source of income for PCB and they should be duly rewarded.
