DERA ISMAIL KHAN - As many as four persons, including a police official, were killed in firing and a hand grenade attack here on Wednesday.
Police said the armed attackers who came on motorcycles opened fire and hurled a hand grenade on the residence of a police official in Mohallah Hayatullah of Dera Ismail Khan.
As a result of firing and hand grenade blast, ASI Qaiser Jahan, his two brothers and a passerby were killed on the spot.
The assailants managed to flee from the scene uninterrupted as the police as usual reached very late, providing an opportunity to the attackers to escape safely.
The bodies were shifted to hospital for medico-legal formalities and, later, handed over to their heirs.
A protest demonstration was held against the attack and sluggish response of the law-enforcement agencies.

NNI adds from Kurram Agency: At least two security personnel were killed and three others wounded in a landmine blast near a checkpost in Lower Kurram Agency on Wednesday.
The political administration authorities said the incident took place near Nawab Shaheed checkpoint when a van of security forces hit a landmine that killed two personnel of security forces and injured three others. The injured were taken to the combined military hospital in Tal.
The van of the security forces was also badly damaged in the blast. Security forces cordoned off the whole area after the incident.
Gas leakage blast hurts
5 at mosque
Our staff reporter adds from Nowshera: Five worshipers, including a prayer leader, sustained injuries in a gas leakage explosion at a mosque in Nowshera district Wednesday.
According to details, people were performing ablution for Fajr prayers when a blast occurred inside the mosque 10 minutes before the prayers.
According to the bomb disposal squad officials, the explosion occurred due to gas leakage from a plastic pipe, which injured five worshipers, including the prayer leader, besides partially damaging the mosque. The residents shifted the injured to the hospital and controlled the fire on self-help basis. Two of the injured have been admitted to the Lady Reading Hospital, Peshawar.
