ISLAMABAD - The Ministry of Interior Wednesday banned a Washington-based international non-government organization (NGO) and sealed its offices in the capital area for its involvement in illegal activities.

An officer of the Ministry of Interior said that offices of 'IMap' had been sealed in Islamabad after receiving some intelligence reports of its alleged involvement in illegal activities.

The NGO had started its operations in Islamabad after the October 8, 2005 earthquake in Pakistan and was involved in the work of digital mapping.

Last year in November, Sindh police had raided its office in Karachi and its office there was sealed on the directives of the Sindh government.

Some arrests had also been made from there besides seizing laptops and other equipment. The NGO was raised on charges of digital mapping of sensitive installations of Karachi including PAF air base and nuclear plant.
