AIOU begins e-learning mode of education

islamabad - Allama Iqbal Open University introduced e-learning to execute online academic activities among its students and tutors.

This turns distance-learning programmes into modern technology-based e-learning mode; this was announced here on Sunday.

Initially, e-learning platform has been established to extend online services for more than 30 MPhil and PhD-level programmes. This is a major development towards transformation of the AIOU into electronic university in a gradual process.

According to the Head of the AIOU e-learning department Dr Moiz Uddin Siddiqui, the university’s technology development plan was being implemented through information and communication technologies.

The vice chancellor has recently taken several initiatives to promote online education, which is in line with the prevailing international practices.

Presiding over a briefing session on e-learning education, the VC Dr Shahid Siddiqui said that the university was trying to provide most comfortable mode of education to its students. This is a wonderful development in the 43-year history of the AIOU, he added.

With this new development, the learning management system has been configured to execute online activities among students and tutors. The LMS is an application programmes which provides an infrastructure for the delivery and management of learning contents. The university has also started providing training to students and tutors using LMS and actively participates in online activities.

 Novice teachers and students could learn LMS activities by just reading and executing these dry lab manuals.

Through this e-learning programme, the students would be able to interact with their teachers through the use of modern distance learning tools.
