Cleanliness drive begins in Korangi: Mayor

KARACHI -  Mayor Wasim Akhtar has said that cleanliness campaign is started with the cooperation of Bahria Town in Korangi district of the city.

“This is the second district of the city from where 0.1million tonne of garbage will be lifted with the help of heavy machinery and labour. Number of stray dogs has increased in Karachi due to heaps of garbage which is very dangerous for citizens”.

He said this while addressing the inaugural ceremony of cleaning campaign held in Korangi. Chairman of DMC Korangi Naiyar Raza, Vice Chairman Ahmer Ali, Commander of Bahria Town Zulfiqar and large number of people were present on this occasion. The mayor said removal of garbage is difficult but we all have to join hands and do this work for our city. Cleaning of parks, play grounds and storm water drain will also be done in the drive.

He said medicines for KMC hospitals are being purchased with the funds of 130million rupees released by the chief minister of Sindh.

He thanked the chairman of Bahria Town Malik Riaz for helping in the cleaning work in Karachi. Wasim Akhtar said that fire brigade department will also be upgraded with the cooperation of chairman of Bahria Town soon.

He said 13 tractor trolleys are purchased for lifting of garbage from streets and roads in Korangi district. Mayor Karachi hoped that local government will bring the change in the city and give a face of modern city to Karachi.
