PPP to ‘wholeheartedly’ join PAT protest

| Kaira says Kasur incident exposes bad governance

GUJRANWALA-PPP Central Punjab President Qamar Zaman Kaira on Sunday declared that his party including its co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari will participate wholeheartedly in the Pakistan Awami Tehreek’s (PAT) nationwide protest next week.
“Nation should not expect justice in the presence of Shehbaz Sharif and Rana Sanullah and they would have to resign, the sooner the better.”
Qamar Zaman Kaira said while addressing persons here on Sunday. He pointed all the parties which were part of the PAT convened APC will participate in the protest movement to be launched on January 17.
Mr Kair regretted that Kasur incident has proved the worst governance in Punjab. “Practical steps and not slogans can ensure prosperity and peace in the society but unfortunately Shehbaz Sharif merely busy making tall claims,” he criticised.
The PPP stalwart said that report of the Baqar Najfi judicial inquiry into Model Town tragedy has unveiled various ministers and officers who had been involved in the sad incident.
He informed that he has come to Gujranwala to motivate the party workers and leaders to participation in the January 17, protest in Lahore. He alleged that Shehbaz Sharif has a style of ruling to shoot protesters which resulted in two sad incidents - the one at Model Town, which claimed 14 lives and the other at Kasur that left two persons dead. He blasted that Shehbaz Sharif has failed to arrest the accused involved in Zainab kidnapping and murder case despite provision of CCTV footage by the residents. “The Punjab police have no ability and capability to trace accused as they have only been trained for shooting innocent protesters,” he alleged. Mr Kair warned that if the chief minister and the Punjab law minister fail to step down then a final decision would be made in the All Parties Conference scheduled to be held on 21st January.
He also lashed out at Nawaz Sharif for his politics of vendetta and confrontation. Talking about Indian threats, the PPP leader said that Pakistan armed forces are capable enough to defend frontiers of the country and the entire nation stands shoulder to shoulder with the brave personnel of armed forces.
