ITP moves to end traffic glitches

ISLAMABAD - The redundant parallel U-turns at various roads of Islamabad given by Capital Development Authority (CDA) are creating traffic problems and posing serious threats to the lives of the motorists. The sources within Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) said the issue has been taken up with CDA of closing redundant U turns on several roads in the capital so that problems currently being faced by motorists are resolved. The signal-free flow of traffic was ensured at intersections by the ITP recently by re-arranging U turns. But at different places like Fazle Haq Road (Blue Area) and F-8 Markaz parallel U turns still exist, causing confusion and possibilities of accidents. ITP sources said the CDA had to block the redundant U turns, which they have not done so far.          "ITP recently took up the matter with the concerned CDA authorities in the wake of a flurry complaints from the public. They assured the needful would be done but so far there is no progress," the sources maintained. The sources said the CDA should also move to formally redesign the signal- free arrangements that were made in consultation with them. "The re-designing of these signal free points is necessary to give permanence to the tentative arrangements," they added. Main crossings in Islamabad like Aabpara Chowk, Zero point, Dhokri Chowk, G-9 Qaddafi Chowk, T& T Chowk and Pir-Wadahi Chowk were made signal free on  tentative basis which really helped in maintaining traffic discipline at these intersections.
