Being an admirer of the socialist ideas depicted in literature, I think I misconstrued the statements of Benazir Bhutto whom I heard yelling with full force that she believed in a socialist economy. Why, then, has her party's government allowed such an astronomical margin of profit to the wealthy CNG stations owners? CNG, after all, is nothing but Sui gas that was explored decades ago and even the infrastructure for its distribution was completed and installed decades ago. Making such a large profit from the public on an indigenous resource is, I think, capitalist thinking, not a socialist one. -AHMAD KAMAL KHATTAK, Peshawar Cantt., via e-mail, July 1.
