LAHORE - Chief Minister Punjab Mian Shahbaz Sharif himself interviewed four senior bureaucrats to fill the post of Higher Education Department Secretary, which is being run on ad-hoc basis since long, sources in the CM Secretariat said Tuesday. Among the four senior officers in the race Nazir Saeed and Zafar Mehmood are being considered as the 'most favourites, while the other two candidates are Khizar Hayat Gondal and Javed Iqbal Awan. All the four aspirant prospects have different professional backgrounds. Nazir Saeed had been Special Secretary HE Department for more than three years and presently serving as Member Board of Revenue. Zafar Mehmood had also served on the same position but his service in the Education Department was not more than three months. Khizar Hayat Gondal who is serving presently as OSD had served as Secretary Auqaf and other departments in the past. It is worth mentioning here that after the removal of Azhar Hassan Shamim from the office of HE Secretary, the department is still running on ad-hoc basis. Interestingly, two senior officers had been transferred within short span of 15 days from the said post. After Azhar Hassan Shamims transfer, Umar Rasool was given extra charge of the said office who was already holding the office of I&C Secretary. Shortly when Umar Rasool was appointed as LDA Director General, Ahad Cheema an officer of grade 18 was given additional charge of HE Department Secretary, who was already working as Additional Secretary Welfare. A senior officer of the Education Department confided that the most important department of the Punjab government was being ignored continuously as no officer was being allowed to work properly and transferred merely on the basis of liking or disliking of the rulers.
