KARACHI - The National Environmental Reporting Awards for 2008 will be presented on August 14, 2009 at a ceremony in Karachi. Federal Minister for Environment Hameed Ullah Jan Afridi will be the chief guest on the occasion. AFYL Productions and Services, as a corporate social responsibility initiative, has launched the yearly National Environmental Reporting awards in association with The Brand Partnership. Addressing a media briefing, Liaquat Siddiq, executive director, AFYL, informed that the process of conducting this nationwide competition amongst all the TV channels and the newspapers/magazines representing the print media is underway. I am pleased to inform that the initiative has received overwhelming interest and support. Entries from the Print and Electronic media have started arriving. The date for entries from the media has been extended till July 23. Being responsible corporate citizens it is the responsibility of all the companies to come forward and support the kind of initiatives, he added. Elaborating the objective of the initiative, Siddiq said that the National Environmental Reporting Awards, a step in encouraging responsible and factual reporting, would create a sense of competition and certainly would help in improving the quality of reporting. A jury will recognise and award three prizes in each of several categories for environmental reporting, based on predefined criteria, he said. In this age of increased reach and free media, understanding and accurate reporting on environmental issues are of utmost importance. It is therefore required that the outstanding work of individuals and organisational efforts of the print and electronic media is given due recognition and encouragement through a reward system, he said.
