Father, son shot dead after 'heroic' scuffle with robbers

LAHORE - Robbers killed a 55-year-old man and his young son shortly after looting Rs 2.5 million cash at gunpoint in Shadbagh police limits on Tuesday. The victims were identified as Haji Akbar, a transporter by profession, and his young son Zubair, a student of first year. They were residents of Gulistan Colony and were on their way back to home after drawing money from a local bank. Witnesses told police the robbers opened fire on them in front of their Gulistan Colony residence. The youth sustained seven bullet wounds on different parts of his body causing his instant death. Police sources said both Haji Akbar and his son reached the house after drawing money from the bank when two armed motorcyclists wearing helmets intercepted them. They snatched the cash and were about to flee when Zubair captured one of the robbers. The other dacoit who was riding the bike, opened fire on Zubair and injured him critically. Seeing his son injured, Haji Akbar also offered resistance and tried to capture the robbers but to no avail. The sources said the robbers sprayed another volley of bullets on the injured youth when he tried to overpower the robbers again. Hearing gunfire, victims other family members including women also came out of the house and found the both lying in a pool of blood. The robbers, however, fled the scene along with looted items. The injured were immediately rushed to a local hospital. The youth, however, succumbed to injuries on the way while his father died at the hospital. When contacted, SHO Shadbagh Ishtiaq Khan said the robbers opened fire and killed the victims when Zubair overpowered one of the dacoits. The SHO claimed that the robbers took away prize bounds worth over Rs 75,000 while the bereaved family said the criminals had looted cash Rs 2.5 million. The bodies have been shifted to the City morgue for autopsy and police have registered a case against the killers with no arrest so far. officials arrested for taking bribe In a campaign against the corrupt elements in the Punjab, Anti Corruption Establishment (ACE) has arrested good number of officer from the different departments of the government allegedly involved in taking bribe from the citizens on Tuesday. According to the details ACE apprehended Rai Muhammad Ishaq Sub Inspector Punjab Police Nankana Sahib on the charges of taking bribe of Rs 15,000 from Asim Mehmood Advocate. Abbas Ali Assistant Director LDA was arrested on the charges of misplacing property documents of one Muhammad Sabir of Johar Town. Sub Inspector Zia Ullah was nabbed for getting illegal gratification of Rs 7,000 from an innocent citizen by preparing fake arrest warrant. Aslam Sindhu SDO building and Tariq Ismail Sub Engineer SE both were arrested for getting Rs 25,000 from one Triq Mehmood. Mumtaz Hussain an ASI of Police Station Chung was arrested red handed for taking bribe of Rs 4,600 and Patwari Abdul Ghafoor and two private people were also arrested for registration of mutation on fake documents.
