'Punjab govt fails to protect shrines, lives of people'

LAHORE - Secretary General Minhajul Quran Dr Raheeq Ahmad Abbasi has said that the Punjab govt started wrangling with the media to distract attention from the suicide attacks on the Data Darbar. He said that emergence of consensus across religious and political opinion against the incompetence of the Punjab government to protect shrines and lives of people had perturbed the rulers of Punjab. There was a grave concern that the government of Punjab was not ready to crackdown on the terrorist elements in the Southern Punjab and the suicide attack on Data Darbar only showed the prowess of the terrorists who had built up sanctuaries under the very nose of the govt. He said that popular outrage expressed against the attack had unnerved the rulers. Instead of adopting the right course, they played this foul game. Talking to a delegation of lawyers in Model Town on Wednesday, he said that the Punjab government played a drama of anti-media resolution to deflect attention from Darbar episode so that focus of national media might change from the burning issues. He asked the media to see through the game plan of the PML-N leadership and not to relent on the collective demand of holding the culprits of the Darbar attacks accountable.
