LAHORE - Information Secretary Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Omar Safaraz Cheema has condemned passage of a resolution against the media in the Punjab Assembly and considered this as a ploy to deflect public attention from critical national issues like terrorism especially the attack on Data Darbar. He was addressing a press conference here on Wednesday. Ahsan Rashid, Javed Iqbal, Nadeem Qadir Bhindar, Mian Khalid Yousuf, Mrs Saloni Bukhari and Mansoor Khan were also present. Omar Cheema said that the resolution against media has exposed the designs of the rulers. This episode amply demonstrates the total collapse of discipline within PML N and the ramshackle leadership of Mian brothers, he said. Nawaz Sharif had vowed publicly to bring about disciplinary action against the instigators of the resolution but just like the fateful Bhurban declaration he miserably failed to live up to his own words. The way he has surrendered before Sanaullah Mastikhel group clearly indicated the end of his political career. PTI stands shoulder to shoulder with the media fraternity in this war for independence and demands immediate and unconditional withdrawal of this scandalous resolution and impresses upon the govt to shed its hypocritical policies. PTI has filed a writ petition before the Lahore High Court (LHC) praying for the expunging of the anti media remarks passed during the passage of the resolution from the official record. If Nawaz Sharif cannot fulfil promises made to the nation, he better quit politics, Cheema suggested. The way the resolution was unanimously passed by all the parties in the assembly clearly portrays their undemocratic mindset. and none of these pseudo champions of democracy can afford independence of media, judiciary and the election commission. PTI has strived for the independence of judiciary, election commission and the media for the past 14 years and commends the vibrant role played by the media in the movement for the restoration of judiciary. Being an ideologically motivated party, PTI firmly stands for independence of media, judiciary and election commission whereas forces of status quo as PML N have assaulted the media and the judiciary a number of times in the past. He condemned assassination of Secretary General BNP Habib Jalib Baloch and expresses heartfelt grief over this tragedy and offers deep condolences to the bereaved family.
