290 beggar children rescued in six months





RAWALPINDI  – Child Protection and Welfare Bureau (CPWB) Rawalpindi has rescued 290 children found begging on city roads during last six months while 275 such children were handed over to their parents during the period.
According to District Officer CPWB, rescue teams of the bureau along with police visit several city areas including Faizabad, Peerwadhai, Benazir Bhutto Road, Commercial Market, Sadr Bazaar, Scheme-III and other areas. He informed that the children under 15 years of age taken into custody from different city areas are presented in Child Protection Court for legal custody. Family tracing unit of the bureau makes efforts to find out the parents of such children and on provision of an affidavit that the children would not be made beggars again, handed over to them.
He said the citizens should give information about such children on child protection help line 1121.
He further informed that 275 such children were handed over to their parents during the period while 50 children are present in the CPWB center under legal custody.
