KARACHI - There appears to be no end in sight to the scourge of killings in the country’s financial hub, as nine more people, including one of the cousins of MQM lawmaker Manzar Imam, were killed in targeted attacks on Saturday.

Police officials said two unidentified gunmen, riding a motorcycle, opened fire on 37-year-old Syed Jamal Faisal, cousin of MQM leader Manzar Imam, in Orangi Town. He sustained two bullets and was ferried to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where doctors declared him as brought dead.

The victim used to work as a private employee with the Sindh High Court Bar Association, the officials said while adding that he was heading to his workplace when the armed men targeted him.

Tension simmered in parts of Orangi Town, where routine and commercial activities were partially suspended. Scores of MQM leaders and workers shouted slogans against the incident.

A massive contingent of the Sindh Rangers was deployed in the area to avoid any further untoward happening.

Separately, Baqai School Nursing Staff in-charge, namely Jamshed Khan, 62, son of Roshan Khan, was gunned down near Anu Bahi Park within the remit of the Nazimabad Police Station. The victim was a retired lieutenant, a resident of Defence, SHO Shaukat Shah was quoted as having said by DSP Shahid Abbas. He said the victim was getting downstairs from a pedestrian bridge to leave for his residence from the Baqai Hospital in Nazimabad No 2 when a stray bullet hit him in the chest and killed him instantly. His family refused to make any comment, when approached.

Separately, a container-truck driver was shot dead and another driver injured in Landhi No 4 within the remit of the Awami Colony Police Station. Police officials said that unidentified armed men opened fire at two trucks. As a result, Fateh Sher, 30, son of Bahadur Sher, was killed while Hazrat Khan was wounded. The victim used to live in Gulshan-e-Hadeed area.  In another incident, a man, namely Jamal Baloch, 28, son of Moosa Baloch, was mowed down and his brother, namely Jalil, in a dispute over a trivial matter in Daud Goth. The attacker, namely Khalid, fled. However, police have detained his brother namely Elahi Buksh.

Separately, one Jumman Shah, 35, son of Anwar Shah, and his wife, namely Nida, 30, were gunned down at their residence in a slum area within the remit of the Khokhrapar Police Station.  Police officials said the victim was a labourer by profession and hailed from Tando Mohammad Khan. He contracted a freewill marriage about 11-year ago and was not on good terms with his in-laws.

The officials suspected that his brother-in-law might have killed him when they were fast asleep. The couple had three children.

Separately, a man, namely Shahzad Memon, 27, was killed near his home in Jamshed Quarters area.

DSP Qaiser Ali Shah said the victim used to work as a supervisor with a garments factory in SITE area. The attackers shot him seven times. The motive behind the killing could not be ascertained until the filing of this report.

Separately a 25-year-old man, namely Abu Turab, son of Sajjad Haider, was recovered dead from Malir River within the jurisdiction of the Memon Goth Police Station.

The victim was a resident of Jaffer Tayar Society. He was shot thrice times by unidentified killers. SHO Rao Khalid said the reason behind the killing was yet to be ascertained. Separately, body of a woman was found in Sikandar Goth within the remit of the Sacchal Police Station. The body was taken to the JPMC, where doctors reserved the autopsy report, saying he might have been strangulated.
