Safety of KWSB installations urged during monsoon


KARACHI - Karachi Water & Sewerage Board Managing Director Misbahuddin Farid has directed engineers and staff to ensure safety of bulk supply lines, filter plants, pumping stations, reservoirs, treatment plants, sewerage lines, sewerage pumping stations and other installations to keep them safe during the monsoon rain.
He issued the orders during several hour long emergency visit to Dhabeji Filter plant and Pumping station, Gharo Pumping Station and Filter Plant, Pipri Filter Plant, North East Karachi Filter Plant and Pumping Station, K-2, K-3, Haleji Conduits, Dumlottee Conduit, Reservoirs, bulk lines and other installations. The MD was visiting these installations and plants after Metrological Department's prediction of heavy rain in Karachi and across the country during Monsoon to ensure that Karachi Water & Sewerage Board has taken special precautions to avoid any disruption in the supply during the monsoon season. Noor Muhammad Chohan has been appointed the focal person and citizens are requested to contact him at 0300-2686447.  On this occasion, he directed Deputy Managing Director Technical Services, Chief Engineer Bulk and Chief Engineer E&M that in order to ensure swift supply during the rain operational staff on holidays must be called back immediately.
Officers and staff must be deployed in three shifts to ensure 24 hours presence at al installations and all necessary equipment must be ready all the time.
He directed Focal Person Chief Engineer (Sewerage) Noor Muhammad Chohan, Chief Engineer Electrical and Mechanical Zaheer Abbass and Chief Engineer Bulk must coordinate with KESC in order to ensure swift electric supply. He said that the conduits and supply lines are visible above the ground at some points. These lines could get damaged during the rain, whereas as per engineering rules the lines must be buried in the ground. He directed that these lines must be guarded properly.
The KW&SB MD directed Chief Engineer Electrical and Mechanical Zaheer Abbass to ensure that KW&SB has taken all measure before against power loadshedding during the rain. Alternate electric measures must be sought to ensure swift supply during the rain.
He said that all Zonal Chief Engineers must stay in full coordination with Governor House, Chief Minister House, KMC and Zonal Deputy Commissioner concerned to ensure that the complaints are resolved in time.
