LAHORE - As many as 46 prisoners, who had completed their sentences on petty charges in different jails of Punjab but whose release was subject to their fines being paid, have been released after the payment of Rs16 million by Qarshi Foundation, announced senior jail officer on Monday.

The officer said that Inspector General Prisons Punjab, Mian Farooq Nazir, had requested Qarshi Foundation that there were dozens of prisoners in various jails who had completed their sentence but they were unable to pay fine and were detained in jails for several months. Qarshi Foundation paid amount in question and prisoners were released from the jails, he added.
