A large number of owners and the workers of surgical units took out a rally as a protest against 18-hour loadshedding of electricity in Daska city.

They were carrying banners and placards and chanting anti-Gepco slogans. Surgical Forging Units Association President Muhammad Abid Mughal led the rally, which ended at Civil Hospital Chowk Daska after passing through all the main inter-city roads in Daska. They said that Gepco has increased loadshedding duration from 16 to 18 hours daily. They said outages have now become unbearable in such sizzling hot and humid weather. They said that all the industrial production in the Daska surgical units have been lying suspended.

They said that hundreds of daily wagers were being rendered jobless due to these unending power outages. They demanded early stoppage of loadshedding or the announcement of a schedule in this regard.

TWO DROWN IN CANALS: Two youth drowned in local canals while bathing there to beat the sizzling hot and humid weather in separate incidents.

The violation of official ban on bathing in rivers and canals took two more lives. Sialkot-based youth Ali, 22, drowned in Upper Chenab Canal while bathing along with his friends. Muzaffarabad-based Wajid, 23, drowned in Marala-Ravi-Link Canal. He was a worker in a local factory at Sialkot. The divers of Rescue 1122 were busy in searching their dead bodies.
