Delayed census: SC seeks report from govt in two weeks

Islamabad: The Supreme Court (SC) today directed the federal government to submit a reply regarding the national census.

When a two member’s bench of SC headed by Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamil took up the case, the additional attorney general appeared before the court and said that census will be held under army. Justice Sheikh Azmat said, “Where is it written in the constitution that the census will be conducted under the army.”

The chief justice expressed his resentment over the delay in holding the census and observed, that the government has decorated constitutional books only in shelves. He further observed that the government has violated the constitution umpteenth times by delaying the census. While directing the government to submit a reply, within two weeks the bench adjourned the hearing.
