Mother, minor electrocuted

LAHORE - A 30-year-old woman and her five-year-old daughter were electrocuted in Misri Shah during heavy rains yesterday afternoon.

Rescuers said Furkhanda Bibi sustained severe electric shocks when she tried to rescue her daughter Muneeba.

The girl was playing during the rain outside her house near Ghoray Shah Darbar when she touched a wire fallen from an electric pole. Her mother immediately rushed to rescue her daughter but she also received electric shocks, killing them on the spot.

The bodies were shifted to Mayo Hospital. The sudden deaths shocked local residents as many people gathered outside the victim’s residence. They also staged a demonstration against the Lahore Electric Supply Company. The protesters were of the view that the deaths took place because of the negligence on part of the Lesco management.

Labourer killed : A 40-year-old labourer died when an under-construction wall collapsed in Hanjarwal police precincts. Rescue workers said Muhammad Hanif, a resident of Deepalpur, died on the spot. Police handed over the body to family after fulfilling legal formalities.

Four people were injured when the roof of a dilapidated house collapsed on them in Kot Lakhpat. Rescuers shifted the injured to a nearby hospital where their condition was said to be stable. Two of the victims were identified as Adnan and Shafique. Police say they are investigating the matter.

Biker crusheD: A 40-year-old man died when a bus bumped into his two-wheeler near the Lahore railways station yesterday.

Police identified the victim as Muhammad Pervaiz, a resident of Iqbal Town.

The man was on his way home when a rashly-driven passenger bus smashed into his two-wheeler outside the Asia Hotel in Nolakha police limits. Pervaiz sustained multiple injuries and expired on the spot.

The driver fled the crime scene while the police impounded the bus. Further investigations were underway.
