With June/July approaching, rains are just round the corner. We usually have rains by the mid or end of June. The rains will only add to the miseries of IDPs living in camps. Realizing gravity of the situation, the federal and provincial governments and their local relief administration should take precautionary measures. First, all the displaced persons currently placed in camps should be shifted to the buildings of schools and colleges. In built up structures, they would at least be safe from being soaked in storm water or stricken with lightening and thunder. The priority, of course, is to normalize the situation in war-torn areas and to help them resettle in their own abodes. But that will probably take a lot of time. -SABA GUL, Islamabad, via e-mail, June 1.
