LHC CJ concerned over poor security at courts

LAHORE - Chief Justice Lahore High Court (LHC) Khawaja Muhammad Sharif on Monday showed great concern over poor security arrangements at the courts all over the Punjab. He expressed these views while chairing a meeting which was attended by Justice Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry, Justice Ch Iftikhar Hussain, Justice Sh Azmat Saeed, LHC Registrar Abdul Sattar Asghar, D&SJ (Establishment), Additional Registrar (G&S), Chief Secretary Punjab, Home Secretary Punjab, IG Punjab, CCPO Lahore, Commissioner Lahore Division, District & Sessions Judges Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Secretary General LHCBA, Presidents of District Bar Associations, Lahore, Kasur, and Sheikhupura Districts. The judges expressed grave concern over loopholes and inadequate security measures in the terms of less police deployment and absence of any B-plan so as to tackle consequences of any untoward incident if happened in the court premises. District & Sessions judges and presidents of bar associations expressed grave disquiet over shortcoming in the security arrangements of district courts and bar associations. They urged installation of CCTV cameras, deployment of snipers/sharp shooters and enhance of deployment on courts and bar premises. Home secretary briefed the participants about the preparation of security plan so as to meet the security needs for courts. The IG Punjab and Commissioner Lahore assured that deficiencies pointed out by the participants in the security arrangements will be made up without any delay. The chief justice on the occasion observed that it is the constitutional and moral obligation of the government to provided security to its citizens. The CJ directed that regular meetings of D&SJ/AD&SJ, DPO, SDPOs, President bar association DCO, and other concerned be held at divisional, district and tehsil headquarters to address the apprehensions of the stakeholders regarding security measures. The CJ also called upon the members of the bar associations to extend cooperation to the security agencies for their safety and to check any untoward incident.
