LAHORE - A meeting of the Punjab Cabinet was held under the chairmanship of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif at Chief Ministers Secretariat on Monday, which gave unanimous approval for the presentation of the budget for the fiscal year 2010-11 in the assembly and also took a number of other important decisions. It was decided in the meeting that salaries of all provincial ministers would be reduced by 25 per cent while their office expenditure will also be curtailed by 25 per cent. It was also decided in the meeting that all provincial ministers and civil and police officers would use government vehicles only in accordance with their entitlement and the decision would be strictly implemented. It was decided that the provincial cabinet would be informed in the next meeting about the Bank of Punjab affairs and the privatization process in the province. While addressing the meeting, the CM said he was thankful to the members of Punjab cabinet and secretaries and staff of the departments concerned for the preparation of the budget meticulously and painstakingly. He said a cabinet meeting would be convened after the approval of the budget and a strategy would be evolved for monitoring and implementation of the budget. He said like the previous year, solid measures had also been taken this year for reducing non-developmental expenditure. He said he had decided to curtail expenditure of Chief Ministers Secretariat by 25 per cent, and he was also grateful to provincial ministers who had set a noble example by announcing 25 per cent cut in their office expenditures as well as salaries. He lauded the Excise Minister, Chief Secretary, Secretary Excise and the staff of the department for showing excellent performance in achieving the revenue targets. Earlier, the Finance Secretary presented the budget for fiscal year 2010-11 in the meeting while Chairman Planning & Development informed the cabinet about important features of the Annual Development Programme.
