LAHORE - Leaders of Opposition parties coming hard on the provincial government have said that facts and figures in the Punjab Budget 2010-11 are aimed at misleading the masses, and there is no relief in it for the poor, and the provincial budget is similar to the federal budget. Leaders of PML-Q, PML-Q (Like-Minded Group), Jamaat-e-Islami and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf expressed these views while giving their comments on the Punjab Budget 10-11 on Monday. PML-Q senior leader Ch Pervaiz Elahi claimed that the Punjab Finance Minister only presented the budget in the House while he himself did not know who prepared it. He said that nobody knows that how the allocations of provincial budget will be utilised as the incumbent Punjab government was deceiving the masses for the last two years, and all the development projects existed only on the papers. He further said that senior minister of the provincial government had stated that they were not taken into confidence on the preparations of the Punjab Budget. Opposition Leader in Punjab Assembly Ch Zaheerud Din talking to media men outside the Assembly premises said that members of the House have listened to 'Dastaan-e-Ameer Hamza in the shape of Finance Minsiters budget speech. Munawar Manj, Abdullah Yousuf, Col (r) Abbas Ch, Sher Ali, Mohsin Leghari, Amir Cheema, Muhammad Yar Hiraj, Ch Shafiq, Khurram Nawab, Najaf Sial and women members were also present on the occasion. Zaheer said that the budget was overtly tax-free, but the significant increase in the tax collection targets would further skin the masses. He doubted that Rs 5 billion under the head of 'Sasti Roti Scheme would be embezzled. He said that the provincial government had announced building cardiology hospitals in various districts of the province, but it did not mention the cardiology hospital of Wazirabad, as Ch Pervaiz Elahi was demanding its establishment time and again. He said that the government had announced to expend Rs 164 billion through the administrators, which means that the government did not trust the treasury members. The Opposition Leader maintained that the provincial govt failed to present a roadmap in the Budget 2010-11 for steering the province from financial crisis. JI Punjab Ameer Dr Syed Wasim Akhtar said that the Punjab Budget 2010-11 was only a 'jugglery of words and it was similar to the federal budget. He said that the government, which claimed itself champions of promotion of education, had increased the education budget with a ratio of only 12 per cent. He said that the government had not allocated sufficient funds for the sectors of agriculture, health and education. He said that the Punjab was an agriculture-based province but the government had failed to address the problems of farmers in the new budget. PML-Q (Like-Minded Group) leaders Mian Asif and Nasir Jutt terming the Punjab Budget 2010-11 as anti-people have demanded of the PA members to reject the budget. They said that people would not forgive the MPAs if they accepted the budget. They alleged that Danish School System was started by the provincial government to favour a friend of Chief Minister Punjabs son. Leaders of PTI, Ijaz Ch and Shabbir Sial said that the Punjab Budget 2010-11 was similar to the national budget, as it offered no relief to the poor. They said that funds allocated for the southern Punjab in the new budget were just peanuts, as the problems of the people of southern parts of the province could not be addressed with such small allocations. PTI leaders said that ratio of taxes had been increased in the new provincial budget, which would make the lives of the poor miserable, while the low income class had completely been ignored in it.
