Supreme Court Tuesday dismissed an appeal of Muslim League (N) disqualified MPA Rizwan Gul and ordered the election commission to register criminal case against him. A three-member bench of Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry heard the appeal of Rizwan Gul, former MPA from PP-34 Sargodha, against his disqualification by Lahore High Court. His rival candidate Hamid Raza had challenged his degree and the court had declared Gul disqualified due to bogus academic certificate. Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammed Chaudhry in his remarks during the hearing said the process of entry in parliament through forgery should now be discontinued. The court dismissed the appeal and imposed fine on Rizwan Gul. The court also ordered the election commission to initiate criminal proceedings against Gul for filing bogus certificates and insisting to prove them original.
