LAHORE Just a day after he refused to pay to the owners of old, crumbling buildings in the City to shift to safer places, Lahore DCO Ahad Cheema on Tuesday ordered demolition of all the decaying structures before the upcoming rainy season. He also asked the occupants to shift to some safer places. The DCO also directed the authorities concerned to issue notices to the residents of the buildings, with getting back written proof of receiving of these notices. A decision to this regard was taken at a meeting held at Ahads office to review the monsoon emergency arrangements. Earlier, Assistant Commissioner Aamna Munir and officers of other departments gave briefing in this regard. While issuing directions to Solid Waste Management, Wasa and Irrigation departments to monitor the localities at riversides vigilantly especially the left side from where the floodwater could enter in the residential localities with ensuring prior arrangements in order to cop with any emergency situation. DCO directed the town officers to install disposal pumps immediately in all the low lying areas. He ordered to submit details of machinery, camps and other items available with the concerned towns. He advised them to store essential first aid medicines and vaccines in abundance at the basic health units. He also directed the Lesco authorities to change such damaged electric wires which could be harmful and cause any mishap in such areas. The DCO further ordered the Parks and Horticulture Authority to remove such dangerous hoardings and signboards immediately which could cause loss to human and property as a result of rains and storms. The DCO warned the authorities concerned that in case of stagnation of rainwater stern action would be initiated and ordered them to remove debris and building material from service roads and other major roads of the city. While concluding meeting, the DCO directed to submit complete report regarding arrangements in this regard in the next meeting with advising the officers of Wasa, WAPDA, Rescue 1122, Civil Defence, Irrigation, SWM and Health department to keep in touch with each other.
