LAHORE - A judicial magistrate on Tuesday sent four police officials including DSP on six-day physical remand for allegedly staging a fake encounter. It is pertinent to mention here that police officials namely DSP Riasat Bajwa, Sub Inspector Muhammad Riaz and two other police constables Asif and Abdul Qadir were not handcuffed when Nishtar Colony police brought them to court of Judicial Magistrate Naeem Abbas in Model Town and the accused were produced in the chamber of the magistrate instead of the court. Police concerned implored the court to grant ten-day physical remand of the accused, however, the judge granted judge granted six-day physical remand of the accused. According to the inquiry report, three robbers had stormed into Makka Medical Store, near Yuhannaabad on Friday night. One of them stood outside the medical store and the other two, including Shahbaz, after making the store owner hostage at gunpoint, looted Rs 35,000. Meanwhile, the owner tried to catch one of the robbers and Shahbaz started firing into the air in a bid to flee from the scene. On the other hand, the medical store owners brother got hold of Shahbaz while the two others managed to escape from the scene. Police, after being informed, reached the spot and arrested the accused, identified as Shahbaz Butt, 22, a resident of Shadbagh. Later, after one hour of the arrest, police staged an encounter and killed Shahbaz near Rohi drain. Media highlighted the illegal act of staging the fake encounter, after which Principal Police Training School (PTS) Chuhang DIG Major (r) Mubashir Ullah held an inquiry into the matter following Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjabs directives. The case was registered against four abovementioned police officials under sections 302/34 and 109 of PPC.
