ISLAMABAD -  Keeping in view the volatile security situation of the country, especially after the terrorist attack on Karachi airport, the federal government has decided deployment of army troops in the federal capital .
The ministry of interior has taken this decision on an application of the Islamabad Capital Territory Administration (ICTA), an official of the ministry said.
The ICT police and rangers personnel are already holding a joint patrolling in the capital city under the directions of Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan.
Under the new security plan, army personnel would be deployed at all important buildings as well as key installations of the city. Around 250 army personnel would take over the internal security of the city as two platoons of army have already reached the capital . The army would assist the local police for the security of the capital at different points including some points at Margalla Hills.
Meanwhile, the capital police will erect mobile police pickets in various areas of the city from time to time in order to maintain high vigilance and effective checking, a police spokesman said on Saturday.
SSP Islamabad Muhammad Ali Nekokara gave these directions during a meeting held at ITP Office Islamabad, that was also attended SP (Saddar) Muhammad Ilyas, SP (City) Mustansar Feeroz, SP (Investigation) Jameel Ahmed Hashmi, SP (Rural) Zubair Ahmed Sheikh, SP (Security) Rizwan Umar Gondal, all SDPOs and SHOs of police stations of ICT.
The SSP asked all SDPOs and SHOs to maintain continuous contact with the complainants and take every possible step for immediate relief to them. It is the prime responsibility of police to help citizens and all-out efforts should be made to bridge the gap between police and pubic, he added.
Nekokara said that the police would tighten its hold around hardened criminals. He also said that citizens would be given direct access to the officers so that their grievances could be redressed. He directed to make field officers more responsible to nab criminals involved in dacoities, street crimes and other crimes of heinous nature.
