QUETTA - A minority MPA Handery Masih was killed by his own guard in Quetta on Saturday when he tried to save his nephew, who is said to be the actual target of the accused cop.
The nephew, who reportedly had a feud with the accused policeman, was also wounded in the incident that came in Nawan Killi suburban area of the provincial capital.
Police said Balochistan Assembly member Handery Masih and his nephew were attacked outside his residence when the MPA was listening to the problems of the people. He was elected on ruling National Party’s (NP) ticket as a minority member and belonged to Mastung district.
Balochistan government spokesperson Jan Muhammad Buledi said his security guard opened fire on Masih outside his residence as a result of which he sustained serious bullet wounds and succumbed to his injuries. Hospital sources said the MPA was shot in the head and neck.
“The accused guard had been working with Masih for 15 years,” provincial health minister Rehmat Baloch said. After the shooting, people tried to grab the killer but he succeeded in fleeing away. “The motive behind the killing was yet to be ascertained,” he said. The police started search for the attacker.
City police chief Abddul Razzaq Cheema said the bodyguard had some personal dispute with Handery Masih’s nephew and both had a brawl outside the residence of the MPA. “The bodyguard opened fire on the nephew as Masih came out of his home to stop him. He was hit in the neck and died on the way to hospital.” Cheema added that bodyguard was “loyal” and bore Masih no personal enmity.
According to a private TV channel, police late night claimed to have arrested the man accused of killing Handery Masih. Police said Mohiuddin was arrested somewhere in Quetta.
