Mushtaq, Azhar included in coaching staff for England tour

Karachi-Mushtaq Ahmed and Azhar Mehmood have been named as Pakistan‘s bowling coaches for Tests and limited-over internationals during England tour 2016.

According to sources, Steve Nixon will serve as the fielding coach. Both Mushtaq and Mehmood have lot of experience in international cricket, and their presence can certainly prove beneficial for the Pakistanis during alien conditions. Mushtaq was one of the best spin bowlers from Pakistan during his time. Mehmood, on the other hand was a medium-fast bowling all-rounder. It is expected that the presence of these two senior Pakistani cricketers will help the current players in the team’s squad.

Earlier, Pakistan Cricket Board had appointed fMushtaq as the new head coach of the National Cricket Academy. Mushtaq, who was until recently the bowling coach of the national team, was tasked with the responsibility of running the NCA affairs. PCB Chairman Shaharyar Khan had told reporters in Lahore that the Board wanted to make the NCA a separate entity so that total focus would be on cricket and players. “We are also going to reorganise the cricket committee in the next week or so and we have decided to only have former Test players on the committee,” Khan had said. He said that the revamped cricket committee which is presently headed by a senior member of the Board of Governors, Shakil Sheikh would be responsible for all cricket matters including domestic affairs.

Khan also said that the PCB has still not decided on the appointment of the new head coach of the Pakistan team.
